Dirasat: The Arab Center for Law and Policy

Dirasat Releases its Fifth Annual Yearbook on Arab Minority Rights in Israel

Dirasat, the Arab Center on Law and Policy, in cooperation with Women Against Violence are pleased to announce the publication of our fifth annual yearbook, Kitab Dirasat 2012. This edition includes 13 studies and articles on issues of relevance to the Arab-Palestinian community. Among them are six research studies on Arab women, two studies on Arab local governance, two articles and a number of special features. Yearbook highlights include an interview with Prof. Dr. Nihaya Daoud of Ben Gurion University which focuses on the status of Arab women in Israel and provides suggestions for institutional and social reform. The introduction, on the same topic, was written by Dirasat’s General Director, Dr. Yousef T. Jabareen and WAV's General Director Aida Touma-Suliman.

The yearbook was released at a public event held in cooperation with the National Committee for the Heads of Arab Local Authorities in Nazareth on January 26th. The event featured a round table discussion on the research relating to Arab women. Mr. Ramiz Jaraysi, head of the National Committee and the Mayor of Nazareth, opened the event. He expressed the view that in the local elections scheduled for later this year, some 30% of slots should be reserved for female candidates. His opening was followed by remarks given by Dr. Jabareen and Aida Touma-Suliman.

The yearbook is now being distributed to activists, academics, NGOs, students, the press and decision makers. It can be downloaded (in Arabic) at the following link:
